March Joy All Star: Clay Owens; Cypress Creek Retrievers

Our March Joy All-Star spotlight shines on Clay Owens, the proud owner of Cypress Creek Retrievers in Island, Kentucky. Clay’s deep-rooted passion for working dogs traces back to his childhood, where he began with rabbit dogs. In 2016, he welcomed Beau, a Labrador Retriever, as his first duck dog. This pivotal moment prompted Clay to embark on a journey of training and competing with Beau, who possesses a love for training, hunting, and a strong desire to please.

As word spread about Beau’s impressive skills during hunting sessions, people started approaching Clay to train their dogs. Encouraged by the growing interest, Clay officially established Cypress Creek Retrievers in 2018, a decision that Clay describes as life-changing. “We have been truly blessed with the success we’ve had,” Clay expressed in a recent interview.

Cypress Creek Retrievers, under Clay’s guidance, offers a range of services, including basic obedience training, gun dog training, and participation in HRC & AKC hunt tests, including The Grand and Master National. Reflecting on their journey, Clay and his wife Jaclyn shared their gratitude for the supportive clients and talented dogs that have played a crucial role in their success.

Clay’s standout achievements as a handler include participating in National events, HRC International Grand, and The AKC Master National. Despite experiencing highs and lows, Clay remains resilient, continuously pushing himself to grow as a trainer.

Last spring, Clay embarked on a search for a new dog food brand. Previous attempts with different brands had left him unsatisfied until he discovered Joy Dog Food. A recommendation from his trusted friend and veterinarian, Dr. Tony Schumann of Erlanger Veterinary Hospital, led Clay to Joy Dog Food. Dr. Schumann highlighted the nutritional benefits of Joy Dog Food, emphasizing its suitability for not just Labrador Retrievers but all working dogs, thanks to its premium ingredients and calorie-dense formulas. Clay’s dogs have since thrived on Joy Dog Food, contributing to their overall well-being. As we celebrate Clay Owens, our March Joy All-Star, we commend his dedication to the training and well-being of working dogs at Cypress Creek Retrievers.

“Since switching over to Joy Dog Food, my dogs as a whole look great. Their coats are shinier, teeth are cleaner, and their stools are more consistent, too. I absolutely love Joy, and I know my dogs do, too” – Clay Owens, Cypress Creek Retrievers.
